MVIFS Bus Tour 2026 (20 Jun 2026)

Come join us for an exciting day/evening of drinks, food, friendship & frivolity traveling on our own charter bus to 3 great venues:

We start at Rumbleseat Wine in Cross Point shopping center. Rumbleseat is a great local wine bar where we will have a glass of wine & appetizers while we wait to board our bus to Northern Cincinnati area.

Next, we will board our bus to travel to 3^rd Eye Brewing in Sharonville. 3^rd Eye Brewing is the 2025 National Brewery of theYear. There we will do some beer tasting of their award-winning beers. (or have a glass of wine if preferred).

During the bus travel we will listen to wine themed music and participate in a wine/beer trivia contest. Three winners will win ‘valuable wine prizes’.

Then we will travel to Vinoklet Winery & Vineyards in Colerain. There we will start with a wine tasting of their fantastic wines and choose our wine for dinner which will be a cookout with choice of: steak, salmon, chicken or tiger shrimp along with buffet of salads, side dishes & deserts. We will have our own party room with view to the vineyard.

Finally, we will board the bus to return to Cross Point shopping center where we started. On the return we will judge and select the winners of the trivia contest and award the ‘valuable wine prizes’. I can’t promise that ‘99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall’ won’t break out! There will be a lot of wine music!

An Evening in South Korea

Most of us don't get to visit South Korea, but the McKenzie's and the Evan's are offering you the opportunity, "kind of".

Come join them for stories from Ginny and Charlie about their years in Seoul, South Korea, an exhibition of Korean Traditional Fan Dance (Buchaechum), and a wonderful, catered Korean meal.

The authentic Korean meal features:

Bulgogi - thinly sliced marinated grilled beef (savory, sweet, and garlicky)

Kimbap - rice and various fillings rolled in dried seaweed and sliced into bite-sized pieces

Japchae - stir-fried glass noodles (made from sweet potato starch) mixed with vegetables and beef
Sticky Rice
Kimchi - various types (cabbage, cucumber, radish, etc.) with choices from very mild to spicy
Ojingeo Bokkeum - (Not for the faint-of-heart) spicy, savory stir-fried squid with vegetables
Korean dessert

There will be water for drinking and Soju for toasting. You are welcomed to bring other beverages as you desire.

Beer Brewing at Eudora Brewing Company & MVIFS Meetup

August 8^th, Brewing: 2:00-5:00 PM, Meetup 4:30-?

Brewing at 2:00: Come learn about and participate in brewing beer at this locally owned brewery and taproom. Tour their brewing facility and enjoy food and beverages with friends. Cost is $40.00 per person. Due to space limitations, this portion of the event is limited to 30 people.

Meetup Social at 4:30: Cash bar and food service. No registration required, no limit on attendees. Enjoy the beer and limited wine offerings as well as treats from the kitchen, known for their “Farm to Table” offerings and local sourcing.

Where: Eudora Brewing Company, 3022 Wilmington Pike, Kettering, OH 45429

Upon checking in, all brewing participants will receive a $20.00 Eudora gift card that can be used for beer flights, individual beers, and/or food. Gift cards can also be saved and used at a later date. The brew master will lead us in creating 10 gallons of a special MVIFS branded beer. We will be involved in measuring the ingredients and helping throughout the process. Come learn how beer is made, differences between types of beer and different types of ingredients. Some food will be provided during brewing.

During a break in the brewing process, we will tour their brewing facility and learn how they make beer at a larger scale for their taproom. Once the beer is ready and bottled (approximately 3-4 weeks), all brewing participants will receive two bottles of the special MVIFS branded beer we make.

After the brewing, feel free to hang around and enjoy all that Eudora has to offer (see link to their website below).

Put your taste buds to the test in a fun and interactive blind wine tasting experience. Wine sommelier Brian DeMarke will guide guests through several flights of unlabeled wines. Sip, swirl, and savor as you evaluate each pour and choose your favorites—keeping track of your picks along the way.

Each flight will be thoughtfully paired with a small plate created by the always-creative Urmilla Holloway, adding delicious surprises to the evening.

Expect a few twists and turns on this blind tasting journey—you never know what might be in your glass!

The Secret in Building 26?????

The Secret in Building 26 is a book by author and native Daytonian Jim DeBrosse who will offer a presentation to our group about this fascinating part of Dayton’s role in WWII. Jim’s book covers a history of America’s heroic effort to break the Nazi’s toughest Enigma codes during World War II. And the heart of the operation was hidden in a nondescript factory building at NCR in Dayton, Ohio. The Washington Post said the book “needs to be read… by those who want to understand the indispensable role of information technology in modern warfare.”

Much has been written about the success of the British “Ultra” program in cracking the Germans’ Enigma code early in World War II, but few know what really happened in 1942, when the Germans added a fourth rotor to the machine that created the already challenging naval code and plunged Allied intelligence into darkness.

Enter one Joe Desch, an unassuming but brilliant engineer at the National Cash Register Company in Dayton, Ohio, who was given the task of creating a machine to break the new Enigma settings. It was an enterprise that rivaled the Manhattan Project for secrecy and complexity–and nearly drove Desch to a breakdown. Under enormous pressure, he succeeded in creating a 5,000-pound electromechanical monster known as the Desch Bombe, which helped turn the tide in the Battle of the Atlantic–but not before a disgruntled co-worker attempted to leak information about the machine to the Nazis.

After toiling anonymously–it even took his daughter years to learn of his accomplishments–Desch was awarded the National Medal of Merit, the country’s highest civilian honor.

Jim DeBrosse, the author of The Secret in Building 26, is a Dayton native and former reporter for the Dayton Daily News. He now lives in Indianapolis with his wife, poet Karen Kovacik.

We invite all joint members to bring your favorite dish and a bottle of wine to share as we enjoy great food, conversation and community. Single members may bring one or the other, or both if you really want to.
