Welcome to the Miami Valley Institute of Food & Spirits (MVIFS)

The Miami Valley Institute of Food & Spirits is a non-profit organization that was reorganized from a national organization in 2016. Our goal and purpose is to advance the understanding, appreciation and the quality of what we eat and drink.

Our Dayton organization celebrates 40+ years of enhancing life in the Dayton community by cultivating our members and our unique food culture through educational programs and social activities. Our membership is diverse but shares the common bond of being wine and food enthusiasts and professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life through education about what we eat and drink.

Our signature program is 'Farm to Table', a food nutrition initiative to educate elementary school children about the origins of their food.  The program focuses on Oakview Elementary School's Garden Project that is targeted to 1st grade students.   Prior to 2021, the program included a visit to Possum Creek Metro Park where presenters share information on vegetables, herbs, compost, animals and more.  Phases 2 – 4 includes an in-depth, behind the scenes tour of Dorothy Lane Market, followed by in-school instruction and concludes with lunch at the Dayton Racquet Club.  Fifth grade students from Southdale in Kettering and DECA Middle will participated in this program.
