  Brrr … It'll be the depth of winter; cold, dark and snowy, and the perfect time to slurp your way to happiness with a warm bowl of soup.

  Please join Ginny and Charlie McKenzie and your MVIFS friends who have not gone south for the winter for a cozy get together at McKenzie Manor, 2844 Wilmington Dayton Rd, Bellbrook, OH 45305. Charlie promises to have fires going inside the Manor and outside in the patio firepit for those hardies brave enough to face the cold. And, to warm your insides before the soup is served, Charlie will open his extensive bar for cocktails and drinks. 

  Please bring your favorite soup to share or a side that complements soup or an appetizer for the social hour. We'll have water to drink, but you are welcome to bring you favorite wine or beverage if you want to. This will be a simple, but satisfying meal - primarily soup and bread, and we'll provide the bread.

  March's  Dine Around is at Coco's Bistro - a local independent bistro that's been in Dayton over 27 years.

  ....a little history - in 1996 Jim & Karen Gagnet opened Coco's 520 Bar and Grille on Fifth Street in the Oregon District.  In 2005 they moved to 515 Wayne Avenue with a new name - 'Coco's Bistro.'  A few years later, 2011, they moved to their current location on Warren Street.  "Jim has been the loving steward of all three restaurants, making shells of buildings into spaces of warmth and invitation.  Karen embodies hospitality, creating a sense of welcome and acceptance for any guest who walks through their doors."

  Come join us for an exciting day/evening of drinks, food, friendship & frivolity traveling on our own charter bus to 3 great venues:

    
  

  
  

  We start at Rumbleseat Wine in Cross Point shopping center. Rumbleseat is a great local wine bar where we will have a glass of wine & appetizers while we wait to board our bus to Northern Cincinnati area.

           Next, we will board our bus to travel to 3^rd Eye Brewing in Sharonville.  3^rd Eye Brewing is the 2025 National Brewery of theYear. There we will do some beer tasting of their award-winning beers. (or have a glass of wine if preferred).

           During the bus travel we will listen to wine themed music and participate in a wine/beer trivia contest. Three winners will win ‘valuable wine prizes’.

           Then we will travel to Vinoklet Winery & Vineyards in Colerain. There we will start with a wine tasting of their fantastic wines and choose our wine for dinner which will be a cookout with choice of: steak, salmon, chicken or tiger shrimp along with buffet of salads, side dishes & deserts. We will have our own party room with view to the vineyard.

           Finally, we will board the bus to return to Cross Point shopping center where we started. On the return we will judge and select the winners of the trivia contest and award the ‘valuable wine prizes’. I can’t promise that ‘99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall’ won’t break out! There will be a lot of wine music!

  Schedule:

  3:00-3:45   Meet at Rumbleseat for glass of wine & appetizers 

  4:00-4:45   Bus ride 45-60 minute drive to 3^rd Eye Brewing

  5:00-5:50   3^rd Eye Brewing (note: open bar for drinks here)

  6:00-6:30   Bus ride 25-30 minute drive to Vinoklet Winery

  6:30-8:00   Dinner Grill-Out at Vinoklet Winery 

  8:10-9:00   Bus ride back to Rumbleseat

  Dinner ‘Cook-Out’ Menu:

  • ½ Bottle of wine per person

  An Evening in South Korea

  Most of us don't get to visit South Korea, but the McKenzie's and the Evan's are offering you the opportunity, "kind of".

  Come join them for stories from Ginny and Charlie about their years in Seoul, South Korea, an exhibition of Korean Traditional Fan Dance (Buchaechum), and a wonderful, catered Korean meal.    

    

  
  

  
  

  
  

  The authentic Korean meal features:

  • Bulgogi - thinly sliced marinated grilled beef (savory, sweet, and garlicky)

  • Kimbap - rice and various fillings rolled in dried seaweed and sliced into bite-sized pieces 

  • Japchae - stir-fried glass noodles (made from sweet potato starch) mixed with vegetables and beef
  • Sticky Rice
  • Kimchi - various types (cabbage, cucumber, radish, etc.) with choices from very mild to spicy
  • Ojingeo Bokkeum - (Not for the faint-of-heart) spicy, savory stir-fried squid with vegetables
  • Korean dessert

  
  

  There will be water for drinking and Soju for toasting. You are welcomed to bring other beverages as you desire.

  Note: There is a limit of 60 for this event in case we have to move inside, but there will be a waitlist established. Your hosts, Charlie & Ginny McKenzie and Bob & Jeanne Evans, will do their best to ensure everyone who wants to attend can do so.

  This event was such a hit in 2025 we decided to do it again in 2026, only better! Please join us for a joyful "Friends Giving Celebration" as we gather for an early Thanksgiving-themed dinner with our Miami Valley Institute of Food and Spirits friends.
